Helpful Tips & Important Information for Success In Biology

  • Use tutorials!!! I can't advise that strongly enough. My tutorial times are posted in the syllabus and under the "Contact" tab at the top of this page.

  • Adding color and relevant pictures to your notes will help you study more efficiently.

  • Copying your notes is a great way to ensure you revisit all the material covered in class.

  • Studying doesn't have to be overwhelming! Take 10 minutes each night to go over vocabulary and other main points.

  • Please remember that on any open ended response questions, you are required to answer in complete sentences or you will only receive half credit for the answer if the material is correct.

  • There will be times that I expect you to gather information from your reading as I will not expound on it in class. The reading quizzes are not to be taken lightly.

  • Take notes when you read! It will make you more aware of what you are reading. Also, you get to use them on the quizzes! You may not use other notes taken in class on your quizzes.

  • Flash cards are an excellent tool and I highly recommend using them.

  • Take the time to organize your materials and notes!

  • Answers to test reviews will be posted in your class period's Google Classroom the night before the test.

  • Late Work Policy: If an assignment is submitted late, the highest grade you may receive on the assignment is a 70%. An assignment is considered late if it is not submitted on or before the due date. Late assignments follow CALENDAR days, not  the A/B Block schedule. Therefore, if an assignment is not submitted on its due date, it is due the next calendar day, not the next time you have my class. Late work will not be accepted no later than the day of the Unit Exam. ***PLEASE REFERENCE THE SYLLABUS FOR A MORE THOROUGH EXPLANATION OF THE GRADING & LATE WORK POLICY.***

Failure should be our teacher, not our undertaker. Failure is delay, not defeat. It is a temporary detour, not a dead end. Failure is something we can avoid only by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing.
